Our Mission
Firmware updates are one of the most overlooked aspects of device ownership. Manufacturers release critical updates that patch security vulnerabilities, fix bugs, improve performance, and add new features — but there is no universal system to notify you when they become available. Instead, updates are scattered across hundreds of manufacturer websites, buried deep within support portals, knowledge bases, and download centers that each have their own layout, naming conventions, and release cadence.
FirmWatch exists to solve this problem. We built a centralized monitoring service that continuously tracks firmware releases across thousands of devices so you never have to manually check each manufacturer's website again. Whether you manage a fleet of enterprise routers, maintain a home lab full of NAS devices, or simply want to keep your laptop and monitor running the latest stable firmware, FirmWatch watches for you and lets you know the moment something new is available.
Our goal is simple: make firmware updates as easy to track as software updates. You subscribe to the devices you own, and we handle the rest — checking for new versions daily, parsing changelogs, and delivering email notifications with direct download links to official manufacturer sources.
What We Do
FirmWatch monitors firmware releases for over 2,200 devices across nine major hardware categories: motherboards, laptops, monitors, routers and networking equipment, SSDs and storage drives, security cameras and surveillance systems, docking stations and peripherals, audio and AV receivers, and more. Our coverage spans dozens of manufacturers, from industry leaders like ASUS, Dell, Lenovo, and Netgear to specialized vendors serving professional and enterprise markets.
Our automated monitoring infrastructure checks manufacturer support pages every day for new firmware releases. When we detect a new version, we extract the version number, release date, changelog details, and download links. This information is indexed in our database and made available through device pages on firmwatch.io, complete with the full firmware history for each tracked device.
Users who subscribe to specific devices receive email notifications as soon as a new firmware version is detected. Each notification includes the firmware version, a summary of changes from the changelog, and a direct link to download the update from the manufacturer's official website. We also provide RSS feeds for every device category, so you can integrate firmware tracking into your existing workflow using any feed reader.
Why Firmware Matters
Firmware is the low-level software embedded in your hardware that controls how the device operates at a fundamental level. Unlike application software that runs on top of an operating system, firmware interacts directly with hardware components — managing boot sequences, controlling peripheral interfaces, handling power management, and implementing core device functionality. Because it sits at such a foundational layer, outdated firmware can have consequences that go far beyond missing a minor feature update.
Security is perhaps the most critical reason to keep firmware current. Many of the most serious hardware vulnerabilities discovered in recent years — from Spectre and Meltdown to various UEFI rootkit exploits — require firmware-level patches to mitigate. Routers and network equipment are particularly high-value targets, and manufacturers regularly release firmware updates to close vulnerabilities that could allow unauthorized access to your network. Security cameras and IoT devices are equally at risk, often running outdated firmware that contains known exploits.
Beyond security, firmware updates frequently address stability issues, fix bugs that cause crashes or unexpected behavior, improve compatibility with newer hardware and software, and optimize performance. SSD firmware updates can improve read and write speeds, enhance wear leveling algorithms, and fix data integrity issues. Motherboard BIOS updates often add support for newer processors and memory modules, fix sleep and wake issues, and improve system stability. Monitor firmware updates can correct color accuracy, fix input lag, and resolve compatibility issues with certain graphics cards.
How It Works
Our monitoring infrastructure runs daily checks against manufacturer support and download pages. For each tracked device, we have purpose-built parsers that understand the specific structure of each manufacturer's website. These parsers extract firmware version numbers, release dates, changelog entries, file sizes, and download URLs. When a new version is detected that differs from the most recent one in our database, we index the update and trigger notifications.
All download links on FirmWatch point directly to official manufacturer sources. We never host, mirror, or redistribute firmware files ourselves. This ensures you always receive authentic, unmodified firmware directly from the manufacturer, and it means the download links stay current even if a manufacturer reorganizes their support infrastructure.
To get started, simply browse our device catalog by category or use the search function to find your specific device. On each device page, you can see the full firmware history, read changelogs, and access download links. Enter your email address on any device page to subscribe to notifications for that device. You will receive a confirmation email to verify your subscription, and from that point on, you will be notified every time we detect a new firmware release for that device.
Built by Kulander Labs
FirmWatch is built and maintained by Kulander Labs, a software studio based in Poland focused on developer tools, monitoring services, and infrastructure automation. We specialize in building reliable systems that solve practical, everyday problems for technical users and IT professionals.
We started FirmWatch because we experienced the firmware tracking problem firsthand. Managing even a modest collection of hardware — a few servers, some networking equipment, a couple of workstations — means periodically visiting a dozen or more manufacturer websites to manually check for updates. There was no aggregator, no unified notification system, and no simple way to stay informed. So we built one.
We believe that staying on top of firmware updates should not require visiting dozens of manufacturer websites, bookmarking support pages, or setting calendar reminders to check for updates. FirmWatch is and will remain a free service. Our commitment is to keep expanding our device coverage, improving our detection accuracy, and providing a reliable service that the community can depend on.
